About phones and tabs reviews' faults

I was watching the web yesterday crunching Samsung Tab and I thought it’s good to remember several things regarding reviews and first impressions: First and most important – all evolved OS devices are behaving increasingly worse in time. Mainly because of user intervention and second because of lots of apps that tend to clutter and kill the system. I have never seen a review of a device having 50 apps installed and being benchmarked after 8 heavy usage hours from boot.

Oh, Apple, I wanna sue you for (...)!

Ars Technica: Apple purposely transformed older iPhones into iBricks by upgrading to iOS 4: http://arstechnica.com/apple/news/2010/11/lawsuit-apple-turned-iphone-3gs-into-ibricks-to-boost-iphone-4.ars Right. This could be named “forced no back compatibility”, as opposed to “forced back compatibility” of which we already know it’s a disaster (see Symbian or Windows). Apple might be forced to allow customers to downgrade their iBricks to iOS 3.x, and this could be the legal way of solving the issue. But not necessarily the appropriate one.

On Apple's biggest responsibility

Curation. If there is only one app that slips thru Apple’s “curating” filters, then the situation becomes disastrous: your hands are tied, anyway, so you’ll end up looking at a huge battery drainage or your device becoming irresponsive.

The essence of a mass smartphone

“When I’ve got nothing to do, I just wanna look into my phone and get something to do. With it, not with another person. Calling is boring, I just want any nice bullshit app to keep me unfocused from my concerns”. So Android is not ready yet for the masses. It has to look much nicer, move much quicker and swap apps much faster, even if it’s only a fart app that you’re playing with.

Sterile social value: sex

From Twitter: Roger Ebert: Playboy may have had a greater influence on our society than any other magazine. http://journ.us/dfOMC8 I’m afraid it’s a bit more: Playboy may have set some unnecessary and sterile social values, focusing everybody on female body and sex. I’m not arguing against women or their beauty, but against making bodies and sex, social values. It’s like prolonging the ’70s without their joints… I’ve been watching a Discovery documentary about mothers making their children sexy, in a “How to make my 6 year daughter so sexy that she can pass as a young woman while she’s still chewing her gums” manner… Of course, they’re not allowed to show their kids naked, but everything else is just as in any Miss World contest.

Even 9% is huge, keep counting guys!

Gizmodo looked into The Register who looked into The Nielsen Comapany who published here, on October 21st, a report showing more than 30% of total iPad users have never downloaded any app in their iPad. Of course it looked funny, but hey, who knows how is Apple really counting its supplies and sales… Today Nielsen came with an update, saying they’ve messed up the figures, it’s actually only 9% that never downloaded an app into their iPad.

If somebody can put this in AppStore, then it’s a free store. Really! I’m still thinking how’s that better than a fart-app…

Again, All Phone Tracker is the first app in Entertainment for Romania AppStore, although it ain’t got more than 1 (one) star rates. What’s wrong with the scoring, guys?!

Why Britain is in deep doo-doo - very interesting comment

Why Britain is in deep doo-doo – very interesting comment AnandaY “What we are seing now is the case of corporate Britain and USA paying the price of its greed. How so? Well, during the last 10 years, did a single day go buy without news about company A moving production abroad to ‘cut costs’, company B outsourcing the entire IT department etc. These things have a nasty habit of catching up with you after a while.
